Grace LaPrade is an illustrator and animator from snowy Buffalo, New York (Go Bills!).
While finishing her BFA in Illustration at the Cleveland Institute of Art, she began working at a local Montessori school. Her daily experiences working with elementary aged children have become intertwined with her artistic practice, and when illustrating stories for children, she strives to honor their diverse experiences and emotions. She is most excited about stories that explore what it means to be human in our world, whether that be through small curiosities or grand imaginations. She uses gouache, pastel, ink, and cut paper to create tactile drawings that reflect the imperfect, weird, and awesome layers of being alive.
Grace also brings stories to life through sculpture, murals, and hand-drawn animation. Her animations have been featured at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO and have accompanied an orchestral performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
Grace LaPrade is represented by Stephanie Fretwell-Hill at Red Fox Literary.
